ACCESSING SHIRE OF LAVERTON WEIGHT-RESTRICTED ROADS

PERMITS REQUIRED FOR TRAVELLING ALONG THE OUTBACK WAY

WA ABORIGINAL LAND:
A permit is required when travelling through Aboriginal land such as the Great Central Road, Tjukaruru Road (Docker River) and most of the roads-tracks leading off the Outback Way between Laverton and Yulara. 

Travellers driving along the main route- Great Central Road (Laverton to  WA/NT Border) and Tjukaruru Rd (Yulara to NT/WA Border) can apply for a transit permit from the Central Land Council (NT), Department of Indigenous Affairs (WA).  Special permission is required to travel off the Outback Way to places of particular interest and travellers can apply to the Ngaanyatjarra Council (NT), allowing 7-10 working days for a permit.

NORTHERN TERRITORY/ULURU NATIONAL PARK:

You are required to obtain a permit if you intend to travel through the Northern Territory Uluru area.  Permits can be issued instantly online or by phone via the Central Lands Council.

Allow up to 7 days
*Must be applied for online.

*NOTE: Exclusion Periods apply to certain areas within the Woomera Prohibited Area.
Access will not be approved during these periods.

TALLARINGA CONSERVATION PARK

*If you have purchased a Desert Parks Passyou will not require the Tallaringa Conservation Park Permit.

As you will be passing through the Maralinga Tjarutja Aboriginal Lands, you will need to inform their office of your intended route.

Closed community requires approval. There will be a waiting time and entry is NOT guaranteed.
